15th Nov’07 Heartbeat: Back to Basics

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2

As we grapple with issues over our lives that seem more and more complicated, God calls us to go back to basics – to carry one another’s burdens – which can happen only if we allow others to carry our burdens as well.

Every season, we struggle with God over different areas of our lives. Some easier to resolve before the Lord, others take a while longer. Some poke us a little for a while; others remain a thorn in the flesh for much longer. It may seem easier to keep it within the confines of our heart and draw away from sharing them with our fellow brothers and sisters and very often we do choose the easier way out by isolating ourselves from the community. It’s safer for our pride and ego, yet detrimental to our spiritual well being.
God has made us to enjoy fellowship with Him and His people. Yet it’s more than just breaking bread and having fun together; it is also deep sharing of lives that we might support and love one another deeply. The Christian walk was never meant to be alone.

Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work:

If one falls down,
his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up!

Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:9,10,12

In the body of Christ, there is strength in unity, and God can use us to touch each other’s lives in a meaningful way, one that lasts for all eternity :)

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:23-25
